This Is How Addiction Treatment Providers in Canada Can Now Get LegitScript-Certified

For the first time, Canadian addiction treatment providers are eligible to become LegitScript-certified and advertise their services on Google to more effectively reach individuals in search of recovery.

In Canada, as in the United States, substance use disorder remains a pervasive problem that impacts a variety of demographics across the country. The abuse of both stimulants such as amphetamines and opioids such as fentanyl have remained critically elevated since national surveillance began in 2016 by the Public Health Agency of Canada. Furthermore, nearly 15,000 deaths are attributable to alcohol in the country each year.

Access to addiction treatment services in Canada is more important than ever. Now, addiction treatment providers operating in Canada can more effectively reach those seeking treatment by becoming LegitScript-certified. Eligible in-person and virtual care providers, mutual support groups, and crisis hotlines that become LegitScript-certified not only build trust with prospective patients, but also obtain the ability to advertise their services on Google.

“LegitScript Certification is a powerful way for addiction treatment providers to gain patient trust and demonstrate their transparency and compliance with applicable laws and regulations,” said Michal Conley, LegitScript’s General Manager of Certification and Compliance Solutions. “With our program’s expansion into Canada and the update to Google’s ad policy, addiction treatment providers in Canada will have a new way to build trust while reaching more patients through Google’s ad platform.”

Why LegitScript Certification Matters

Different from accreditation, which looks at the quality of care, LegitScript certification looks at a wider view of business practices to address issues of noncompliance and help providers ensure transparency online. The LegitScript seal uplifts good actors in the addiction treatment industry, demonstrating to prospective patients that providers are operating transparently and in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.

In addition to differentiating your services and standing out from the crowd, LegitScript provides the only certification and monitoring service for Canadian drug and alcohol addiction treatment providers that Google relies on to vet advertisers for eligibility.

Why is this important? Research shows that the vast majority of treatment seekers — 86% — search Google before scheduling an appointment. Simply put, Google is an essential resource that prospective patients use to find help. By enabling providers to advertise on Google, LegitScript Certification offers access to exponentially larger pools of treatment seekers.

How Canadian Providers Can Apply for Certification

The certification process is rigorous because we hold applicants to a high standard. Following the steps below can help providers experience a faster application process.

1. Create an account.

Go to my.legitscript.com to create an account and enter your contact information. Once you have set up an account, you’ll be ready to proceed.

2. Pay the application fee.

Once you’ve created an account you’ll need to pay the application fee. The annual subscription fee is due later, after our review is completed and upon certification. LegitScript offers an expedited processing service for an additional fee for applicants wanting to expedite the start of their application review.

3. Ensure all documentation is complete.

One of the primary issues that delays certification is missing or incomplete documentation. Download our questionnaire for a complete list of questions included on the application, and the subsequent documentation LegitScript requires. Review the Canada-specific Application Checklist for an overview intended to help you prepare.

4. Clarify and remediate.

As LegitScript analysts review your application, they may have questions or need additional information. Your prompt response ensures timely review. To receive certification your business will have to demonstrate compliance with our standards and terms & conditions.
